Well, hello! After some more silence while I was finishing cleaning things up with the new site (tweaking some layout issues, making my code compliant, and so forth; I’m a geek like that), I’m finally back to show you the memory pouch I made for my son. (My daughter’s pouch and info about the project can be found here.)
I had an idea of what I wanted this to look like, and I think it came out pretty much just like I had pictured.
The lettering reads, “You are my sunshine,” to reflect that I’ve always called him my “sunshine boy” because he is such a happy, friendly little guy.
What you see is a whole lot of stem and outline stitch in varying shades of orange and yellow. The sun’s rays could probably be called satin stitch, although I did it in a very loose, uneven way to create a more sketchy look.
The pouch is made of linen, and the inside is lined with a coordinating cotton that I had on hand.
Both of these pouches were very pleasing projects. The embroidery was simple but achieved just the effect I wanted, and just seeing these hanging in our home makes me smile. It’s a bonus that they’ll be used for such a special purpose.

It’s great when projects turn out exactly as you imagined they would. I love this, the colours on the linen look fabulous :) Is stem stitch similar/same as, outline stitch?
written on July 6th, 2009, at 5:35 amTweed, the stem stitch is almost exactly the same as the outline stitch. The difference is in which side of the needle the thread is lying when you make the stitch. Sometimes it’s hard to even tell the difference. :)
