This week my creative space has been busy with lots of little bits of many different things, and I’m accumulating a little mess on my sewing table.
You may notice some hints of business-y stuff here. Maybe some label mockups, some ideas for hang tags, some embroidery patterns in the works….
My space is busy with these things because I am finally, after many months of thinking about it, getting prepped to open a little Etsy shop. Since I’m working on building up a small stock of items to sell, I’m also designing and experimenting with labels and tags and thinking through all the details. I really love details, as you may have noticed, so I’m getting a little caught up in the process, but I think I’m getting there.
This makes me even more nervous than my first giveaway did. I have received enough positive feedback that I feel like I can give this a go, but there’s also the possibility of a huge fail.
I’m not going to look at it that way, though. I love making things, and I would be making them whether I was selling them or not. So I’m going to keep doing just that, and if I happen to bring in a few pennies as a result, more’s the fun for me!
P.S. There’s still time to participate in my giveaway. I’ve added a second prize for a random commenter, so stop by and play if you like!
P.P.S. Those of you who follow me on Twitter know I’ve been having computer troubles. On Monday my hard drive crashed, and I’m just now getting back on track. That means I may not be able to do much viewing or commenting on other creative spaces (see more at kootoyoo) this week, but I’ll try to get back to it next week.

June, your embroidery is beautiful! And your red house was entirely inspiring :) I hope the etsy shop goes well!

written on September 16th, 2009, at 11:30 pmI saw the HD problem. Ugh. We have lost two in our lifetime, recovered nearly everything both times. I now run two back-ups. One every day.
Good luck with the Etsy shop. Some of my creative thinking is along those lines too!

But I loved what you said… you love making things and would make them anyway. If you able to focus on why you are doing this, then whatever happens will be a bonus. I have everything crossed that it goes well for you.

I like your attitude about opening an Esty store…you would be ‘making’ anyway so if you didn’t sell much it wouldn’t matter – although I think you will do great. Your work is lovely.

I feel the exact same way about making things. One just MUST and so it is nice to be able to share some of these handcrafts with others for a bit of profit. Best of luck to you on your shop opening!
