I use a lined journal for my planner right now. It gets used as a calendar and a list-keeper and a sketch book. I jot down ideas and to-do’s and drawings for projects. It’s the only way I remember to clean the bathrooms or prepare for the next morning’s story time at the library or, yes, write blog posts. It’s the only way I organize my “deadline” projects so they start at A and come out at B, or C or wherever they land.
Just the other day I was flipping through my “planner” and noticed how my lists had grown longer and more numerous over the last few weeks as I’ve scrambled to get going with this Handmade Holiday.
I’ve had to bump items down from one day to the next to the next as I’ve run into glitches or time crunches or sheer exhaustion, yet I have steadily made progress, and now I’m only one gift away from calling it quits. And yesterday, for the first time—probably ever!—I actually was able to cross off every single thing on my list for the day without moving anything to tomorrow. I’m going to enjoy it, because it may never happen again!
I’m off for the weekend to wrap a few more gifts and maybe even whip up a few small things for the poor, neglected fledgling shop. So I’ll leave you with a photo I took in a previous Christmas season:
These are some deliciously peppermint-y cookies to give you a taste (ha ha!) of what’s to come next week in the way of posts. I’ll be sharing some of the things we do to make our holidays special, and yes, that includes Christmas cookies! Happy weekend!

It feels nice to cross stuff off, doesn’t it?!! I see something interesting things marked off that list that I hope you’ll talk about and/or show pictures of after Christmas :).
I vary on what I use for my lists — my favorite is a steno pad because it’s not too small, not too big, and I like having the binding at the top.
I picked up a Taste of Home cookies & candy holiday book several weeks ago and am still not sure if I’ll make anything out of it. Thanks to your list, I am reminded to pick up some gingerbread house kits — I can’t believe I forgot about those!
written on December 18th, 2009, at 12:42 pmI’m a checklist-in-a-notebook kind of girl myself. I put little checkboxes beside each item so I can still read what it is that I’ve accomplished – I even put down the mundanities of life like “have a coffee” because in the business, sometimes I forget to do even that!!
These pictures of goodies on blogs lately are sending my sweet tooth into overdrive…. mmmmmmmm…….
