I’m not big on making New Year’s resolutions, but I do have a list of goals, things I’d like to try or improve on or accomplish. Maybe I’ll get to them this year, maybe they’ll be bumped onto the next year’s list. The idea is just to have … well, ideas, and to keep motivated and creative.
So here, in no particular order of importance, are my goals for 2010:
- begin and maintain a band sampler (check! see photo above)
- gather gift ideas and once a month create one of those items to get ahead of the holiday rush
- make more embroidered mini quilts
- explore embroidery as art
- attempt some new types of print-making (e.g., stencils, screen printing)
- make more time for creative activities with my kids
- start and maintain an art journal
- improve my photography skills, perhaps take a class
- be more consistent with participation in the online creative community
- always have at least one “background project” that’s not shop-related
- related: once a month create one of the many projects I’ve got bookmarked and whittle down the list to the “keepers”
- learn the art of paper cutting
- keep the shop stocked on a somewhat regular basis
- start drawing more, learn more about digital art, maybe take a class
Well, then, all written out like that, it looks like a really ambitious list, doesn’t it? (This is why I just list goals instead of calling them the ominous-sounding “resolutions”!) Considering we’ve passed the middle of January and I haven’t even thought about the “once-a-month” goals, I’d better get cracking!

Love your list of goals Gretchen :) I like the “background project” idea – good to have non-shop related creativity going on. I would like to work on that one too! :)

written on January 20th, 2010, at 12:50 amI’ll say ambitious! Good to see. Look forward to watching all these things unfold in 2010 (. . . or 2011!).
