I’ve seen so many beautiful hand-knit bits of winter wear in the past few months, and despite being quite caught up in other endeavors, I was inspired to throw together a couple of quick-knit scarves recently.
I needed a gift for a friend who was visiting from overseas, so I looked through my yarn stash and came up with this:
I had just enough yarn to finish the scarf—phew! I did a simple knit 2, purl 2 pattern, and I added the white stripes at random intervals. I rather like the effect.
And my daughter, seeing some of the scarves I’ve knit for myself in winters past, requested one of her own. I once again turned to the yarn stash and found some soft, variegated yarn I’d used in some sort of baby project.
The yarn matches her purple winter coat as well as satisfies her love of the colors pink and white. I used a seed stitch to make a narrow scarf just the right size for my girl. She opted out of posing for a photo, but I assure you it’s cute.
I’ve got my eye on a number of cowl-type patterns for myself. If only I could knit myself some more time….

Lovely scarves! I love the stripes on the blue one, your friend is very lucky!

Beautiful! I love scarves… and I find them so fantastic for experimenting with patterns. (Since I’m not bold enough to go free-style on a sweater… :-)
