April is the month of birthdays for us. I couldn’t even tell you, off the top of my head, just how many friend and family occasions we have in April. Lots.
One little friend is about to turn 5, and I thought another Eye Spy bag might do the trick.
I already planned to make one for my daughter (with the aforementioned pink fairy fabric), so I put the two bags together in a mini assembly line. It was rather satisfying to cut all the pieces, press, sew, fill, all in a pleasing sort of rhythm.
I already had all the little objects collected since most of the things I bought for my first Eye Spy bag came in multiples, and I had plenty of vinyl left for the windows.
I bought new fabric, since our small friend likes red and I discovered I had literally no red fabric in my stash. While searching out that fabric, I ran into the pink fairy print and had to have it. I used a bit of sturdy twill for the back of each and have plenty left over to make a few more bags in future.
The design is pretty much the same as the first time, except that I placed my grommet on the corner of the bag instead of on the pocket, and I didn’t fill the bags quite as full.
The only thing I haven’t figured out is how to get the wrinkles out of the fabric once it’s all put together. It gets so wrinkled when I turn it right-side-out, but with the vinyl window I can’t use a hot iron, and a cold iron doesn’t seem to do enough.
I suppose it will just get wrinkled again as it gets played with, but it would be nice to present it a little better at the start….
My daughter happened to see these lying in the sewing area and said, “Those are nice bags! Who are those for?” I played coy, but I know for sure she’ll be pleased to discover one for herself in a few weeks.

They look great. My kids love their eye spy bags.
