This week, beyond continued experimentation with watercolor painting and a still-on-the-needles baby blanket, I’ve been spending time playing catch-up with a miscellany of little things. You know, just tying up loose bits, putting a finish to small things that have just been sitting around waiting for me to get to them.
One of those things is designing party invitations for an upcoming ice cream-themed birthday party.
The ice cream fabric was picked by the birthday girl herself, specifically for a birthday dress, thus cluing me in to the ice cream theme. (She does love it.) The ice cream cone is a quick watercolor that will be scanned in and added in full color to the invitation once I’ve got the layout right.
I’ll be making these ice cream cone cupcakes with help from my talented cake-decorator cousin. It can’t be that hard, but I’d like my icing to actually look like ice cream, if you please.
Then there’s the soon-to-be-three child herself, the other small thing I’ve been chasing:
This one has been a whirlwind of activity lately, barely finishing one thing before moving on to the next. I feel like I’m running behind a typhoon with a bucket, pleading, “Do try to keep all the water contained, won’t you?” Still, it’s nice to see her so crafty.
(Thank goodness her sibling is content to remain a little slower-motioned during most of these moments. One day I’ll have to show you how nicely and quietly he scribbled all over a step stool and a windowsill while I was distracted with his sister.)
Find more Spacers at kootoyoo, as always!

Love it when people do parties for their own kids – wonderful memories for the whole family. And v impressed to see your daughter is wearing a smock. We don’t seem to have an outfit left without some sort of self decoration, and yet so much art is done in the nude.
