My Creative Space: Ruffles and Stuff

These aren’t photos from my current creative space, because my current space is boring right now. It exists mostly on the computer as I catch up with some of that type of work. So how about a look at something that was in my creative space recently?

Having realized just how easy it is to make some basic shirts and dresses for my daughter, I used this tutorial to make a cute little tank. (Sorry, funky photo.)

Flowered

Instead of giving the ruffle a rounded shape as in the tutorial, I just left the edge straight. (I used the rounded ruffle shape on her birthday dress, which I’ll show you soon.)

Oh, look, my model was feeling agreeable this time!

I also made a little tank in a sort of pillowcase dress style. Inspired by this tutorial for a dress, I made a strap to fit through the casing rather than using a ribbon.

Then I fixed up an existing pair of still-fitting-but-no-longer needed fall/winter pants with a shorter (capri) length and coordinating cuffs. When the cuffs are rolled up you see the coordinating fabric, but they can also be rolled down for a neutral look that matches anything. (Additional photos on my flickr page.)

Tank in Blues (4)

I think I’m done making kid clothes for a while, am feeling ready to move on to other things, but my daughter’s gotten some nice additions to her summer wardrobe and they were so, so easy to make.

I’ll be back Friday to show you, at long last, the birthday dress (having reclaimed my camera), and there might be a little “Friday Freebie” to be found as well.

Now, it’s still Wednesday night in the home of My Creative Space (and actually only Wednesday morning here), but I’m posting a little early this week to suit my day’s schedule better. So make sure you pop back in later and take a few minutes (or hours!) to visit more crafty inspirations at kootoyoo when the new CS post goes up.

Alison,I have to give my daughter credit for the flowered fabric. It was given to me sometime in the last few years, and she chose it from the stash herself. :)
