The Second Surprise

Last night tornadoes and severe storms swept through our area, which is fairly uncommon around here. We were all safe, with minimal damage, but right now we’re dealing with a very large, very old fallen tree at my in-laws’, as well as a pretty serious injury sustained by my FIL during cleanup. I can only begin to imagine what it’s like in the Midwest in comparison!

Fallen

There’s a good chance we’ll have a second round of storms tonight, so we may be hunkering down by candlelight for dinner. In the meantime, my second “surprise” illustration:

understarslowres

It’s called “Under the Stars.” I was inspired by a blog post by my loyal supporter, customer, and bloggie friend Glenda, in which she wrote about wanting to sit outside and look at the stars more often.

Months earlier, Glenda and I had agreed to do a personal swap, one that started at the beginning of the year and had a deadline of December 31, so the timing of the arrival of the swap goodies would be a surprise to the recipient, what fun! When I read about Glenda and the stars, and the illo idea popped into my head, I knew it would be the perfect foundation for my part of the swap. (I sent along some other fun things, as well, including a windchime, which relates to another of her “47 by 47″ list items.)

Under the Stars

Thanks, Glenda, for the inspiration and for your faithful encouragement and friendship over the years!

“Under the Stars” is in the shop for all you stargazers out there!

My favorite illustration thus far (I wonder why?!!). It’s so very beautiful, and I can’t wait to frame it and hang it up =). A very wonderful swap package, to be sure!

Yikes, that’s a huge piece of fallen tree. I’m glad it didn’t land on your in-laws’ house. Hope there wasn’t further damage from the storms you expected the night of this post, and wishing for a speedy recovery for your FIL’s injury.

(Cute kidlets in the edge of the photo!).
