Art Camp, Part One

Transfer Paintings: Day 2 Painting 4

Look! Something artistic to share! I was a few days “late,” but on the weekend I managed to wrap up the Watercolor Transfer Paintings class with Carla Sonheim. So much fun.

For the first couple of days, we worked with adding watercolor and other media onto the transfer paper. Some pages were simply abstract bits of color that would later be cut up and used for collage.

The chemicals on the transfer paper interact with the paints to make interesting textures, although my particular brand of paper didn’t do at all what Carla’s did. It got sort of gummy and milky and felt rather like painting with gesso. I liked the texture it made, but I wish the paint had done more pooling and spreading like in the class examples.

Other pages were very simple landscapes. We eventually transferred the landscapes onto paper and fabric, like so:

Neat, right? Stay tuned. We did some other fun stuff as the week went on, and I’ll be back with more photos!

Beautiful — I particularly love the 2nd and 3rd photos. This looks like a fun class! I’ll have to keep my eyes open for when it’s offered again because I think I’d enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing what else you did in Art Camp =).
