Remember those abstract paintings on transfer paper? Later in the week, we cut them up and played around with the pieces to make a couple of collages.
We made faces
and creatures
and then added whatever other media we liked to complete them. I favored my ballpoint pen, but I wish I’d done a little more (maybe some ink, maybe a Sharpie, maybe a one-liner drawing) with the face. I might revisit that one….
My kids helped me design the layouts and got pretty excited about the process. They thought it was fun to watch me sandwich all the pieces between pieces of paper and flip them so they were turned the right way for the transfer, and they got very excited about watching the transfer paper backing peel off to reveal the finished product. This is definitely a cool technique to do with kids (with care, of course, as hot irons and scissors are involved).
Up next, a sort of print-making technique with transfer paper. Art camp is so cool!

Ohhh you’ve been having fun! I sort of wish I’d been brave and joined in. But then, I signed up for three summer art classes which was about one or two too many really, though they’re all good. But I digress — I LOVE what you did with the transfer papers! I’ve never tried it so you’re one up on me. Well, more than one up. Should say another one up. But I digress once again. Bottom line: These are really cool!

On the face, I like how you used the same strip of paper for the left eye and brow — it makes for a neat effect.
I have a soft spot for the creature =).
