Washing Up

Washing Up

Just before Christmas, while watching me knit a new dishcloth for my kitchen, a friend suggested that this year’s gift for my girlfriends ought to be dishcloths. That seems like a pretty unexciting gift to me—here, go wash some dishes. But several other friends quickly chimed in that they, too, would be very happy having some knit cloths.

So I knit, and knit, and knit like the wind until six coordinating sets of dishcloths were stacked and ready to go. Each set has one entirely made of variegated yarn and one made in white with a stripe of the variegated to match.

These are only four of the six sets, as the other two were not finished at the time of photo-taking.

I used my favorite pattern, which you can find here. And now I’m using all the leftover yarn to replace my own dishcloths that had started getting old and gross. Whee!

Isn’t it funny how in the post-feminist vacuum domestic and household gifts are desired and requested? I’ve seen many a terrified husband worried because his wife asked for an iron for Christmas…lol.

Those dishclothes are beautiful – I’d have requested some, too.

How EXTREMELY satisfying. Lovely colours too. I find knitting very hard – I admire your stripes!

The thing is, if one MUST wash dishes, it puts a smile on the face to have something pretty to use, not to mention the fact that it came from a friend. So – I’d say you done a good thing. They ARE pretty! Once again you’ve inspired me. I actually do have leftover pretties which would certainly perk up my dishcloth pile! Must go find my needles….
