This year we needed to make up a Valentine box for a class party. After gathering some inspiration on Google, we decided on a birdhouse. (I sure wish my camera had done a better job of focusing on what I wanted it to, but my model was grumpy, so I’ll take what I can get.)
I didn’t have an advance plan for constructing it and wasn’t sure how complicated it might become, but it was actually pretty simple. We started with a shipping box from the recycle bin, used the top flaps and lots of tape to style a roof, and cut a hole in the front. Then we wrapped it in paper (with some scrapbooking paper stuck on each end to cover the creative folding), decorated it, and called it good.
I added a curly pipe-cleaner-heart-thingy poking out of the front (oh, we’re calling them “chenille stems” or something like that nowadays, aren’t we?) and a little bird peeking out of the house. The rest of that is kid decoration.
I also added a handle for carrying, as the box is a bit large and I wasn’t sure how well it would fare on its journey to and from school. (It seemed to have done all right.)
That’s about all I accomplished for Valentine’s Day this year, so I’m glad it was a good one. Hope you had a happy Heart Day!

It’s totally gorgeous!!! Love it!
