I’m making up my own patterns as I go, and I’ll share them, as well as photos, in the New Year. They’ve turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself.

Meanwhile, a special little guy turns three today. He’s smart and funny and sweet, and I can’t believe the time has gone so quickly. Happy birthday, Nez!

I bought most of my Christmas gifts from fellow Etsians, but I am making a few things myself. This one involves a little bit of sewing, and I wouldn’t mind having one of them for myself…. And that’s all I can tell you for now. Ho ho ho!

The crocheting is finished. The stiffening-with-glue is finished. The glittering is finished. The ribboning is finished.

I am really, really pleased with this year’s Christmas ornaments. They are delicate and lovely and just a touch sparkly. But this is all you get to see for now, until I’ve handed out the goodie buckets!

I’m feeling a little aimless in my drawing right now, probably because what I should be doing is stitching pattern samples. So I’m just sort of randomly letting the pen wander on the page, and ‘though I usually really dislike that feeling, I’m ok with it this time. It doesn’t always have to be something. Novel idea, right?

We were supposed to walk around and pay attention to things we’d never noticed before, to be “present.” I realized I’m actually pretty good at that already.

My Creative Space …

has been full and satisfying lately.

I have another Eye Spy bag ready to ship (and the beginnings of a new drawing beneath). I don’t sell Eye Spy bags as part of my regular inventory, but I do take custom orders when asked!

There’s a new print in the shop titled “Bear Boy Balloon.” The original ink drawing is also available.

And I’ve spent some time designing brand new gift certificates to the june at noon shop.

Get ‘em while they’re hot!

Oh, also: That drawing you see on the $10 certificate is called “Things That Fly.” I’m trying to decide whether to add watercolor or leave it as-is. I’m also debating whether it’s the type of thing that will sell in the shop. What do you think?

My creative space: jumbles, delays (or procrastinations), so many pieces. And then, completion. Sweet.

Do you remember that little artistic dilemma I had? It’s been solved.

I knew I wanted a little more going on in the background, but I needed it to be subtle—and it was hard to get more subtle with the already delicate look of the foreground. I let this one sit on my desk, and every time I walked past it, I looked at it. I didn’t try to figure it out, just looked at it and hoped the ol’ subconscious would solve the problem for me.

And, lo, it did just that! (I’ve been reading too much classic English literature lately, I think.) I suddenly envisioned a muted, blurred background of grass and children at play to sort of “place” the action in the foreground, but in a more dream-like, quiet way than anything more obvious. I put it off for a while because I was afraid of not being able to actually accomplish what I saw in my mind, but I finally took a deep breath and dove in. All in all, I’m quite happy with it.

It doesn’t scan well, so I’m not going to produce prints. Instead, the original will be in the shop as a one-of-a-kind piece.

Elsewhere, I’m still plugging away at some finishing. What about your creative space?

This week has been rather quiet, creatively speaking. Unlike previous lulls that have made me feel a little disoriented and agitated, this is a peaceful slowness, so I’m rolling with it. I have, however, started to stack a pile of half-finished projects in hopes of putting the wraps on them soon. The painting you see there is one that I “ruined” by adding marker against my better judgment. (I was trying to stretch myself with new media, but it didn’t feel right, and it just wasn’t.) I’m going to see if I can save it before I move on.

I’m also contemplating some knitting for a change of pace, but I have yet to get myself organized for that. I’m just being … quiet, I suppose. What about your space? Quiet and calm, or noisy and on the run?
